Who has the most acres of skiing in the US and Canada?
8,464 - Powder Mountain Utah
Powder is huge with over 8,400 acresincluding 2,876 lift served acres (9 lifts
total) plus 507 acres cat skiing (at $25 a ride) and 5,081 acres accessed by a
hike or served by shuttle bus when you ski beyond the lifts. Even more
remarkable, Powder is privately owned by Summit
Group, and open to the public with limited ticket sales to 1,500 a dy!
That's a lot of acreage per skier!
Whistler-Blackcomb Ski Resort in British Columbia Canada
Whistler is the largest ski resort in North America, also hosting the most skier
visits at its two interconnected ski mountains Whistler and Blackcomb.
Whistler's vertical is 4,978' and Blackcomb's is 5,133'
and over 8,100 acres of skiing and riding.
7,300 - Park City Utah
Since Vail Resorts combine Park City Mountain with Canyon, its not jus the
biggest skiing in Utah, its among the biggest in North America with 41 lifts,
300+ Trails on 17 Peaks and 14 Bowls.
5,800 - Big Sky
Ski Resorts, Montana
Moonlight Basin & Big Sky are now joined to become the biggest skiing in the US,
and the third largest continuous ski area in North America. Big Sky's vertical drop is
huge too at 4,350'. If Big Sky combined with private neighbor Yellowstone Club,
it would bring 8,000 acres under one beautiful big sky.
5,289 - Vail Colorado
Vail was the first to be the biggest ski resort in the US, and now its the
biggest ski conglomerate with 14
ski resort on its Epic Pass. But Vail Mountain is still a big favorite, the
original for its classic alpine trails on the front side, and huge open Back
Bowl skiing. Vail is the grand daddy of US ski resorts.
4,800 - Heavenly, Lake Tahoe California
Heavenly we love most for its heavenly views of Lake Tahoe, but its huge too,
with a 10,040' summit, 29 lifts, and 91 runs with 3,979' of vertical of skiing.
4,300 - Mt Bachelor Oregon
The largest ski resort in the Pacific North West, Mt Bachelor is a 9,065'
dormant volcano with skiing all 360-degreet. Bachelor's vertical is
3,365' with some speedy lifts.
4,270 - Sun Peaks
Sun Peaks has over 4,000 acres and while nothign is super steep, its super
entertaining, and its in freinldy Canada, eh?! and 3,514 vertical, with 3,300 acres. Did we menion its beautiful?
3,600 - Squaw Valley, Lake
Squaw is massive, 29 lifts, 170+ trails and 16 bowls on a 9,000' peak. If Squaw
connects with neighboring Alpine Meadows (another 2,400 acres), well that will
be California dreaming on such a winter's day.
