Wildcat in New Hampshire is best noted for its remarkable views. You can't
get a more scenic picture of Mt Washington and Tuckerman's Ravine than from the
slopes of Wildcat. But there are other big alpine accolades for Wildcat, like
fastest longest chairlift in New Hampshire, and one of the best places to ski
come spring due to its high elevation at 4,062'. You can get in lots of vertical
at Wildcat with 10 minute cat laps, all while enjoying the phenomenal White
Mountain views. Your neck might hurt from turning around on your lift ride to
enjoy the views of The Mount - what a Wildcat dilemma.
The Wildcat's Express quad serves the whole 2,112’ vertical, base to summit
in under 6-minutes, reaching all of the fantastic 49 feline trail names, from
the long tame 2.75-mile Polecat to wilder Lift Lion and Wildcat. Lynx offers
some of the best views, particularly of the legendary all natural ski terrain of
Tuckerman’s Ravine on 6,289' Mt Washington's south slope across the valley.
Wildcat has a terrain park on the lower mountain Catapult trail, but that's not
the Cat's claim to fame - its more about well pitched top to bottom runs. A few
fun glades have made Wildcat's trail map, but the best are still tree stashes
only the locals know, some can be bribed with beer.
Wildcat does offer a learn to ski and ride area - the Cat and Mouse magic carpet
and Snowcat Triple near the base and Cub's Den daycare in the classic 60's
vintage base lodge. The Wildcat Pub upstairs is popular for après ski, or a sit
down lunch of pub fare by a picture window. Wildcat is not posh or fancy, its
genuine. You won't find fancy Bogners here, you won't find slopeside condos and
on mountain hotels either, since Wildcat is in the White Mountain National
Wildcat is sister ski resort to Attitash, both are owned by Peak Resorts so you
can ski both on the same lift ticket,
Attitash is just 20-minutes away.
Wildcat's nearest lodging is in the delightful village of Jackson, 10-minutes
down Route 16. For lodging while skiing Wildcat, we recommend
The Eagle Mountain House or
The Wentworth both in Jackson with historic lodging, Wentworth has more
romantic and modern suites with fireplace and jacuzzi, while Eagle Mountain is
more of a family friendly, old-world grand hotel high on the hillside. Both have
excellent dining in their main Inns. For après ski and entertainment, the
Wentworth has an elegant piano bar, or go to the Shovel Handle, Shannon Door or
Wildcat Tavern for more casual local vibe and live music.
Wildcat is a great ski area to include in your North Conway getaway, among the
best in the White Mountains, if you like long 2,000' vertical runs and short
speedy lift rides. Did we mention the views... meow.
